Assessment Tools - They’re No Joke

I receive many jokes in my inbox. Jokes are brilliant because not only do they make you laugh, but if you pay attention, you can usually find an imbedded lesson. The fascinating aspect is that the same joke can impart a different message depending on the recipient’s head space and time.

In my training and coaching practice, we often start with assessments. Let me share this joke with you and then I’ll describe the lesson I learned from it with relation to assessment tools.

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinarian’s office. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird’s chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head sadly and said, “I’m so sorry, your Duck Cuddles has passed away!”

The distressed owner wailed, “Are you sure?

“Yes, I am sure. The duck is dead,” he replied.

“How can you be so sure,” she protested. “I mean, you haven’t done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something.”

The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few moments later with a black Labrador retriever. As the duck’s owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.

The vet patted the dog and took it out, and returned a few moments later with a cat.

The cat 1970 thru 1979 muscle cars for sale jumped up on the table and also sniffed delicately at the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room.

The vet looked at the woman and

Understanding When Bronchitis Treatment is Necessary

Many patients who suffer from respiratory conditions are diagnosed with bronchitis. Bronchitis is a very common respiratory illness and it can occur in anyone, regardless of age. However, bronchitis has a higher incidence in smokers, people with respiratory insufficiency and people with weak immune system. The problem with bronchitis is that it generates symptoms that have an unspecific character. The symptoms of bronchitis are also characteristic to other respiratory illnesses and in many cases they can be misleading in establishing the appropriate diagnose.

Even if the illness is correctly diagnosed, prescribing the best bronchitis treatment is a challenging task for doctors. Antibiotics are often part of bronchitis treatments. However, if bronchitis is caused by viruses, it is considered that bronchitis treatments with antibiotics are ineffective in overcoming the illness. In some viral forms of acute bronchitis, medical treatment isn’t required at all, as the illness clears on itself in a few weeks. Even if the illness is caused by bacteria, bronchitis treatments with antibiotics can

2. Surround yourself with a circle of friends who will listen, support, suggest and commiserate.

To these, I would add:

Confidence in the St. Louis Schools Hitting All-Time Low with Philanthropists

Philanthropists, business leaders, and educational advocates across the region have lost confidence in the St. Louis schools board’s ability to correct the ongoing problems in its district, according to a September 2, 2006, article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The recent forced departure of Superintendent Creg Williams signaled to philanthropic groups and business leaders that problems were escalating within the St. Louis schools. Life in Las Vegas

Life in Las Vegas

“I’ll go and get some munchies for us, Bob. Don’t give that beautiful black-haired lady my seat. Eh?”

“You wish!” Sean went to get some food while Bob ordered some white wine for them both.

“You’re becoming a regular aren’t you?” The sprightly barmaid commented as she brought him their drinks and took his Gold Card.

“I was coming to Friday’s before you were allowed to drink milk on your own, probably. I’ve been to them in so many cities I can’t even remember.”

“I’m older than you think. In fact you’re probably not more than five years older than me.” She chuckled, as one of the other patrons who was standing nearby joined in.

“It isn’t usual to hear a woman bragging about how old she is. Do you always have this effect on people, Mr. Black Hat?” A woman of about thirty with long red hair commented.

“I do seem to cause some extreme reactions in many situations. I guess it must be because I’m a REAL red-head! Ha-ha.”

“I suppose you want to see if I’m a REAL red-head.” She smiled with a wicked and mischievous grin that Bob returned, just as Sean came back and stood between them.

“I can’t leave you alone for a minute; can I Bob? SO who is this beauty you’ve struck up an acquaintance with? My name is Sean.” Sean was shaking her hand as she looked him over.

“I had been thinking he was your father, but now I see you are much better looking and he couldn’t be related to YOU! My name is Bonnie Brown, and I love that accent!”

“Bonnie was just suggesting that I might want to know what even her hairdresser doesn’t. Maybe you could take her up on that offer.” Bob was close to laughing out loud.

“I was not! He is a ‘rude dude’, why don’t we go sit somewhere else Sean?” Bonnie responded angrily.

“Please, Sean. See what she wants. I’m OK here for a while. Take your drink with you.” Bob held his drink out for Sean to take.

“Bonnie, I don’t know why the two of you choose to be doing what you are doing. I would be happy to talk with you and explore the possibilities but I don’t see any reason to make enemies. If I get him to promise not to be rude will you stay and continue our discussion?”

“You look and sound so DELICIOUS. I would do anything for you! Why don’t we go out to my car and discuss it in private?”

“I think I see why Bob was acting the way he was Bonnie. I’m sure there are lots of people who would be happy to take you up on your offer. I am not inclined to do that with someone I don’t know. I’m sorry.”

“You might very well be sorry later. I want you to know I am a mortgage banker and a professional who doesn’t waste time ‘beating around the bush’; if I like something I ‘go for it’.”

“Sounds delightful, Bonnie. I am inclined to look for something a little more meaningful when I engage in sex, however. Perhaps what you are doing works for you. It doesn’t work with me!”

Sean turned to smile at Bob as Bonnie walked to the other side of the bar. “Wow! American women can be pretty forward!”

“I think Swedish women are forward. She is sick. You handled the situation very well and much more politely than I was doing. I am impressed.”

“I was too!” A blond girl of about 25 who was standing near the gas pump in the corner offered.

“My name is Susan; may I join the two of you?” She began to take Bonnie’s barstool as Bob and Sean admired her whole appearance. Her face was sculpted with smooth lines and style.

“This is Sean; he is from New Zealand and doing a world tour until he decided to stay here in Las Vegas. I’m Bob, and I just moved here from L.A., but I’m originally from Canada. Are you from Las Vegas, Susan?”

“No, but I’ve been here for a couple of years working as a show girl and trying to get a singing career together. I’m from Florida originally.”

“You have wonderful warmth in your voice!” Sean remarked with apparent admiration. “Is that the famous Southern Drawl I’ve certificate of OJT for computer technician heard about?”

“Her drawl is much better than most, Sean.” Bob offered as he saw the two of them were attracted to each other and got up. “I think I’ll go get something to eat at the buffet. Would you like some Susan?”

“I’ll have some of Sean’s stuff here.” Susan was definitely what Sean needed. When Bob returned he noticed they were enjoying each other immensely and he reminded Sean that he would

7 Little Things That You Can Do to Organize the Kids' Rooms

Filed under: book, photo, web — brekits @ 7:45 am

7 Little Things That You Can Do to Organize the Kids’ Rooms

1. Sink to their level. Get on your knees in their room to view things from a kid’s level. Convenience is an important factor in getting anyone to organize or put things away. Lower clothing racks in the closet. Put most frequently used items on the lowest shelves and in the lowest drawers. Set up decorative, short open bins, crates, baskets and boxes in corners, on closet floors and at the foot of the bed.

2. Hide stuff under the bed. Use flat, rectangular storage bins on wheels that are made for under-the-bed storage. Designate one of these for Barbie dolls and another for mini toy cars. Store your children’s artwork including construction paper and crayons in one of the bins. Older children can store schoolwork and notebooks here. Got music lovers? They can keep a pile of CDs handy here.

3. Make organizing fun. Organizing can be a drag even for “big people.” Imagine how your child feels at the thought of clearing away his toys, clothes and school work. Get your children involved by letting them creatively label their own drawers and bins. They can make personalized drawings as labels. Or you can take photos of your child with an object that goes in the drawer and tape it to

Islamic Militancy — Seed for the Next Dark Ages

We teach our collegians well about the period known as the dark ages but do we thoroughly explain what brought on this horrible period across the globe? With little fanfare the answer to that question is an unequivocal no.

Let’s do the math here. The marriage of civil and ecclesiastical power is without dispute the singular cause of the horrors of the dark ages. w2 employment form free When the authority of the state and the church are wed, people suffer. The equation goes like this. If I am a Muslim, Christian, Catholic or Jew I may practice my religion without fear of persecution, reprisal or rejection. I still must obey civil law but the judicial body won’t besiege me with charges for the beliefs I hold about God and faith.

When any particular religion becomes the state sanctioned religion then I can be prosecuted for my lack of compliance. Once Catholicism was the state sanctioned religion and for one thousand years the Pope ruled across the globe, with an iron hand. Some say the reformation ended that and some like to call it the recovery, that is, the recovering of the simple gospel message and the abandoning of the burgeoning religious rules and mandates of the church. Is Islam bringing this kind of terror into how to validate a tin no in bureau of internal revenue philippines civilization again?

In America the idea of the separation of church and state is all that stands between us and that kind of tyranny. Of course the separation of church
